BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Polson boys torch Ronan, girls succumb to Maidens

RONAN — Polson was on fire from deep, shooting 50 percent from 3-point range, and better than that from the floor in an 80-43 drubbing of Class B Ronan on Tuesday.

Payton Lefthand scored 17 points and Matthew Rensvold had 15 as five different Pirates scored in double figures in the blowout. Tanner Wilson scored 13 points and both Jeremiah North Piegan and Julian Jones scored 10.

The Pirates were 7 of 14 from 3-point range as they jumped out to a 25-11 lead after the first quarter. With Ronan keeping pace in the second, Polson doubled its lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Chiefs 24-8 in the frame. Polson was 25 for 49 from the field in the contest.

Aaron Misa scored 13 points to lead Ronan and Kasey Mock had 11.

BJ Bach scored 22 points and high-flying Stillwater Christian moved to 16-2 with a wire-to-wire win against Troy.

The Cougars put up 41 points in the first half and took a 10 point lead into the break. Joe Hooker and Isaac Neumann each added 15 points in the win.

Sean Opland scored 20 points and Dillon Savage 17 in a losing effort.

RONAN — Micalann McCrea scored 22 points to lead three Maidens in double-figures as Class B Ronan knocked off Polson.

Ronan used a 16-7 second quarter edge to pull in front 32-22 at halftime. Lee Camel scored 15 and Alicia Camel 14 in support of McCrea.

Nichole Lake led the Pirates (3-10) with 19 points but no other Polson player had more than seven.

Stillwater Christian climbed to within two possessions in the final quarter after facing a double-digit first quarter deficit but ultimately came up short at home against Troy.

The Cougars (6-12) trailed 16-4 at the end of the opening period and still trailed 22-9 at halftime. But a fourth quarter run keyed by a pair of Serena Koch 3-pointers trimmed the lead to four with three minutes left, although Stillwater would get no closer.

Koch and Dori Smith each scored 13 points in a losing effort, with Smith adding 16 rebounds for a double-double.

Alyssa Lewis led Troy with 15 points, and Allie Coldwell chipped in 14.

Flathead Valley Homeschool won its ninth straight game with a decisive victory against Missoula Big Sky’s sophomore team.

The Crusaders (14-4) got a career-best 15 points Priscilla Rajkowski in the win. Karissa Williams added 12.
