The fourth annual Wilderness Speaker Series kicks off Thursday with a presentation by Seth Carbonari, the fire management officer for Flathead National Forest’s Spotted Bear Ranger District.

The free speaker series is a collaboration between the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation and Montana Wilderness Association. Three presentations this year will provide an opportunity to learn about Montana’s wild places.

Carbonari’s talk, “Wilderness Fire Management and Specific Challenges in the Flathead National Forest,” will examine the ecological role of natural fire in wilderness areas.

The forest’s wildfires last summer provided examples of some of the challenges that fire management faces.

The presentation takes place Feb. 4, from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Arts and Technology Building on Flathead Valley Community College’s Kalispell campus. For more information, contact Amy Robinson at (406) 284-1747 or Carol Treadwell at (406) 387-3847.
