BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Glacier girls bounce back, Flathead boys win OT thriller

Glacier bounced back from a disappointing loss by defeating Helena High 58-46 on Saturday afternoon in girls basketball action at Glacier.

The Pack (10-4, 4-2) held a 30-24 lead at the half of the Western AA battle.

Hailee Bennett went 7 for 9 from the field and made 6 of 7 free throws to lead Glacier, and all scorers, with 22 points. That pushed her past the 1,000-point mark for career scoring.

Nikki Krueger followed with 13 points.

Kamden Hiborn netted 12 points for Helena (10-4, 4-2).

Glacier came up short on Friday at home, falling to Helena Capital, 54-50.

A late charge by Flathead (4-10, 0-6) fell short as Helena Capital (7-7, 2-5) hung on for a tight Western AA victory.

Flathead outscored Capital 16-10 in the fourth quarter to make it close at Flathead High School.

Capital opened the game with a 17-7 advantage and led 31-21 at intermission.

Kylee Meredith scored 16 points for Flathead, with 15 of those coming on five treys.

Tiana Johnson was next with 15 points and eight rebounds.

POLSON — Columbia Falls raced out to a 41-19 halftime lead and rolled to a Northwest A victory.

The Wildkats (15-1, 5-0) stretched the lead to 37 points in the third quarter before slowing down in the fourth.

Kiara Burlage led Columbia Falls with 20 points. Ellie Johnson added 11 and Sydney Hovde 10.

Loyola led 18-16 and 28-22 after the first two quarter stops. Loyola outpointed Libby 15-8 in the third period for a 43-30 edge.

Shannon Reny led a balanced Libby attack with 14 points. Madison Monigold added 11 points and Abby Ennenga finished with 10.

Tessa Burke had 28 points to lead the way for Loyola.

HELENA — Flathead rallied in the second half to force overtime, then came out on top in the extra session 8-7 for the victory in its Western AA contest with Helena Capital (8-6, 3-4).

Flathead (4-10, 1-5) trailed 27-18 at the half, but forced overtime by outscoring Capital 32-23 in the second half.

Sophomore Tyler Johnson led Flathead with 19 points and classmate Sam Elliott added 11.
