Thief wanted a head start on biking season
An Eighth Avenue East North resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report two bikes had been stolen. The caller said both bikes had been locked up on a pole outside, and that one was taken Tuesday and the other disappeared Thursday. Officers filed a theft report.
Another Eighth Avenue East North resident called when she discovered her purse was missing. She claimed that two people had been in her apartment the night before, and that they had left before she went to bed. When she woke up, her purse was gone. The same woman called back later to let officers know she had gotten a call from a man who found her purse in a snow bank, and was going to drop it off at the police station.
A caller at a Ninth Street West business reported a large fight in progress in the entryway of the establishment. No weapons were involved, and the caller thought the suspects were all intoxicated. The group had been calmed down and were speaking with the business owner when officers arrived. One arrest was made for disorderly conduct, and the others were cited and released.
The owner of a East First Street business called the Whitefish Police Department to discuss subjects who had been hanging out in front of the business and frequently left trash and beer bottles behind. The owner stated he had also found a syringe left outside on Saturday morning.
A manager at a U.S. 93 South business called to report a female sitting in front of the business with several shopping carts full of personal items, allegedly asking customers for rides and money. Officers spoke with the woman, who was apparently trying to get to Spokane. A taxi service was called to take her to the train depot.

A concerned driver called police to report a reckless driver in downtown Whitefish. The driver allegedly almost hit several vehicles and ran over a curb.
A man called to report a lost wallet. He said he thought he lost it at a bar on Central Avenue, and was concerned because he was supposed to catch a flight the next morning and needed his ID.
An employee at a Central Avenue business called police to request help with a “very rude woman” who was refusing to leave and being verbally abusive. Officers escorted the woman out of the bar for being disorderly and advised her to move along.
The Kalispell Police Department responded to a motor vehicle fire on East Idaho Street.
The Somers-Lakeside Fire Department responded to reports of a burn pile on Lakeside Avenue.
