A judge agreed on Thursday to give a sex offender’s defense attorney two months to research claims of numerous parole violations that could send him back to prison for up to 13 years.

Michael Kullberg, 27, is accused of numerous violations of his probation, including failing out of sex offender treatment in Hawaii and being convicted of a DUI in that state, disorderly conduct, associating with other probationers, drinking and driving in Lincoln County, and driving without a license on numerous occasions.

He is serving the 13-year suspended portion of a 20-year sentence to the Montana State Prison for raping a girl in June 2006.

He appeared Thursday before Flathead District Judge Heidi Ulbricht, who declined to delay the case until June as his lawyer had requested.

Kullberg’s next hearing was tentatively set for May 19.

Kullberg attracted national attention at age 6 after he and a 13-year-old youth were charged for setting fire to the Lakeside Marina, causing more than $1 million in damage.

The arson charge against Kullberg eventually was dropped.
