SATURDAY ROUNDUP: Voisin catches big air in Norway; Local track stars point in college meets
Voisin sixth at X Games in Norway
OSLO, Norway — Whitefish skier Maggie Voisin finished sixth in the big air competition at X Games Oslo on Saturday, the first time the X Games has offered the event to women.
Voisin scored 80 points on her top run of the night, and was the only woman in the field to throw a switch 900.
Voisin is coming off a podium finish at the PyeongChang Olympic slopestyle test event, where she finished in second place.
Perrin runs sub-4 mile at MPSF
SEATTLE — Colorado junior distance runner Zach Perrin (Flathead) broke the four minute barrier in the one-mile run at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor track and field championships on Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor Center on the campus of the University of Washington.
Perrin finished fourth in the race with a time of 3:59.00, behind a track and meet record performance from Washington’s Izaic Yorks in 3:53.89. Second place finisher Sean McGorty of Stanford also broke the previous track and meet records, finishing a hair behind Yorks in 3:53.95. Cal State-Northridge senior Anass Zouhry finished third in 3:58.87.
Perrin’s time is the second-fastest mile ever in school history for Colorado. He’s only the fourth CU runner to break the four-minute barrier.
Schulz points for Storm at Big East
QUEENS, N.Y. — St. John’s sophomore sprinter Marlow Schulz (Whitefish) pointed for the Red Storm in two events at the Big East Conference indoor track and field championships on Saturday at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Schulz finished sixth in the finals of the women’s 500-meter dash, in 1:15.10, part of a second pack behind teammate Claire Mooney, the champion in 1:10.90. Schulz was the third leg of the 4x800 relay that finished in eighth in 9:35.29.
St. John’s finished second as a team at the conference championships.
Boschee places in Summit League
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — North Dakota State senior Lexy Boschee (Glacier) scored in a pair of events for the Bison at the Summit League Conference indoor track and field championships on Saturday.
Boschee finished fifth in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.62 meters (5 feet, 3.75 inches) on her first try, but failing to get over the bar at 1.67 meters (5-5.75), the final height for the top four finishers.
Boschee also finished seventh in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.15 seconds. She placed fourth in qualifying on Friday.
The Bison women won the Summit League indoor team title for the ninth-straight season. NDSU has won every possible league title, indoor and outdoor, since joining the Summit League in 2008.
Cook scores big leap for Bobcats
BOZEMAN — Montana State senior Leah Cook (Glacier) placed eighth in the triple jump at the Big Sky Conference indoor track and field championships on Saturday at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Cook bounded 11.24 meters (36 feet, 10.5 inches) to earn a point for the Bobcats, who finished eighth at the event. This is the second-straight year Cook has scored in the discipline at the conference indoor meet, finishing eighth in 2015. The Montana women finished seventh.
The Montana State men finished fifth at the meet. The Montana men were ninth thanks to a third-place finish from Matt Quist (Flathead) in the high jump on Friday.
