Snowmobile use limited on east side of reservoir

| January 7, 2016 7:36 PM

Two major Flathead National Forest roads are closed on weekdays due to winter logging operations.

The East Side Reservoir Road No. 38 along Hungry Horse Reservoir and Meadow Creek Road No. 2826 are closed Monday through Friday to all motorized use, including vehicle and snowmobile traffic.

The roads will be open for snowmobile use on the weekends.

Parking for winter recreation on Road 38 will be available at the Desert Mountain parking area just outside Martin City or at the junction of the Abbott Bay Road No. 5301 about 5 miles south of Martin City.

The road restrictions are in place for public safety during winter logging operations in the Cedar Chipmunk Timber Sale area on the Spotted Bear Ranger District.

Log hauling will take place on weekdays through the winter along the plowed East Side Reservoir and Meadow Creek roads.

Winter recreationists are advised to use caution on the plowed roads. Stay along the right side, travel in single file and ride at prudent speeds.

The timber sale operators will not haul on weekends although they may plow and do other work.

The roads will be open from Fridays at 6 p.m. through Mondays at 12:01 a.m. for over-the-snow traffic.

For more information about road access, contact the Hungry Horse/Glacier View or Spotted Bear Ranger Districts, 406-387-3800.
