A visitor in the animal kingdom

Share an African photography safari during a presentation Friday at Flathead Valley Community College.
Kalispell nature photographer Douglass Dye will present a free multimedia presentation on Friday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. in Room 139 in the Arts and Technology Building at the college.
The photos were taken last spring when Dye and seven other people accompanied photography guide Nick Fucci of Bigfork on a trip to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. The group toured Kruger National Park in South Africa photographing all the large species.
According to Dye, the most indelible images in Kruger were adolescent leopards as they romped and played on the dead branches of an acacia tree.
From Kruger the group went to Livingstone in Zambia and then to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
The photo safari ended on the Chobe River where it forms the boundary between Namibia and Botswana.
The highlight for Dye was at Elephant Bay on the river.
“There was a Cape buffalo carcass partially submerged on the bank of the river,” Dye said. “As it turned out, the carcass was the center of a great drama between crocodiles in the water and a pride of lions on the land. We had the great fortune to be able to witness the drama, beginning to end.”
There is no charge for Friday’s show and everyone who wants to share in the adventure is welcome.
