Four champs pace C. Falls to speech win

Host Columbia Falls won team sweepstakes honors in speech and debate at the Columbia Falls Invitational on Saturday.

Led by individual champions Mikel Knutson, Ava Chisholm, Jerelyn Jones and Emily Getts, Columbia Falls scored 196 points to win the Class A division.

Whitefish, which had two individual champions — Sam Benkelman and Zach Ade — was second with 119 points.

Polson placed third with 46 points.

“This was an important win for us as we approach the state tournament,” Columbia Falls Head Coach Tara Norick said.

Local speech and debate teams conclude the regular season this weekend at a tournament in Bigfork.
