Citizens Academy teaches about Kalispell police work

 Next month, community members will have a chance to see local law enforcement firsthand when the Kalispell Police Department holds its Citizens Police Academy.

Each night, two officers will give hourlong seminars about the ins and outs of law enforcement. Almost every aspect of the department will be on display during the eight-week course that will take place every Tuesday evening from Feb. 2 to March 22.

Classes will be taught on how major crimes are handled, how the local drug task force works, what happens during a crisis situation, what school resource officers do and much more. A field trip to the department’s shooting simulator will be included in the class.

“We try to expose them to as many different facets of our department as we can,” Kalispell Police Administrative Capt. Wade Rademacher said.

“A lot of the responses we’ve had in the past is that it’s been a real eye opener,” Rademacher said. “They were really impressed with the quality of the officers, their professionalism.”
