LETTER: Questions after GOP debate

| January 21, 2016 11:00 AM

I watched both the recent Republican debates in their entirety. The three people on the under card I would give an A; they conducted themselves with dignity. On the other hand on the later one I almost turned it off several times. Here is my critique of four of the candidates.

Christie is nothing but a bully and non truth teller and is a joke as he pretends to to be a kinder, gentler person.

Bush for me is a non starter, period.

Ted Cruz has said he wants to abolish the IRS and several other government agencies. He wants to put thousands of people in the unemployment lines, and he holds up a tiny piece of paper and says you can file your taxes on a post card. My question is do you mail him your taxes, W2s or whatever direct to the White House?

Then we come to Dr. Carson. He wants a flat tax of 10 percent and no exceptions. Just think about that. If you happen to be making $10 an hour, you would immediately drop to $9, so add that tax to state tax, FICA, etc., plus auto tax, property tax if you own any, Whitefish sales tax if you shop there, phone tax and a bunch of others that I am sure I can’t remember, and see what you have left!

Imagine in this economy a family trying to make it on say 25k annually and he wants $2,500 of it up front. Why does he not come out and just say I want to kill off the poor in this country? Why would a moderator not ask him to explain his plan?

I emailed Dr. Carson and I asked him the hard question. He said on stage that if you had a question to do just that. So far I have not heard back and if I do I fully expect some sort of form letter like you get from a Democratic senator from Montana.

If for some reason I have misunderstood my take on all this, I welcome having it explained — that is, if you can refrain from calling me a liar and a loser. —Glen Hook, Kalispell
