LETTER: Story on pastor's talk about Islam was 'biased'

| January 24, 2016 11:00 AM

I have wondered how one tells when there is bias in reporting, as I often hear how NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN are biased, not giving “just the facts,” but inserting their beliefs and opinions in their “reporting.”

Well, thank you Daily Inter Lake, for your Dec. 9 “report” on the meeting held at the Hilton Garden Inn by Act! for America. Now I understand “bias in reporting,” since this “report” was obviously biased from the headline down. It began with the title, “Crowd hears pastor denounce Islam,” and continued with the introductory statement that the event was a “three-hour denunciation of Islam.”

In reality, this meeting was lead by Shahram Hadian, a man whose life began in Iran, but moved to the U.S. as a child. His parents were fleeing the Islamic political upheaval that led to U.S. Embassy employees being held hostage for over one year. His family was Muslim, and he remained Muslim until about 1989 when he met Lord Jesus Christ as savior and left Islam... which, by the way, is sufficient reason for him to state that there is a price on his head now.

I would ask that, in the future, if this reporter wants to register his opinion, he submit his writings to the editorial page, where opinions are understood as such. If he wants to “report,” please write “just the facts.” We can formulate our own opinions, thank you. —Glenda Brown, Kalispell
