Five seek FVCC trustee appointment

Flathead Valley Community College Board of Trustees on Monday will interview five applicants for a board opening.

Trustees will hold a special board meeting at 3 p.m. Monday in Blake Hall to determine a replacement for longtime trustee John Phelps, who resigned recently.

Applicants are Pete Akey of Whitefish, Marion Foley of Martin City, Harry Hyatt of Bigfork, George Shryock of Whitefish and Kelly Dowling Stimpson of Bigfork. All candidates noted numerous community service and experience serving on boards in their applications.

Akey is currently a senior vice president and the manager of the Commercial Loan Department at Glacier Bank.

Foley, a trustee from 1996-99, is retired.

Hyatt noted 43 years in the chemical industry working in a variety of technical and executive positions.

Since retirement, Shryock started a business, Twin Ventures LLC., with his brother. He noted his past relationship with the community college, having served as a part-time instructor and counselor, among other roles.

Stimpson outlined her professional experience as representing and providing legal advice to public school districts for 16 years.

The appointed trustee will serve on the board until May 2016 and may run for election to serve the remainder of the current term. Subsequent terms will be for three years.
