WHITEFISH — A change of venue shook up the leaderboard on another gorgeous day at the 80th annual Earl Hunt Memorial Fourth of July golf tournament on Friday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Conditions were near perfect, but when the sides switched courses in the morning, the leaders struggled to carry their games over. Each shot 10 strokes worse than the day before to tighten up the race and lend intrigue to today’s final round.

Men’s leader Sam Krause shot a 6-over-par 77 on the South Course, losing his three-stroke lead and falling into a tie for fourth place.

Phoenix’s Justin Miller carded a 1-under 70 and Whitefish’s Mark Mance a round at even par to take a share of the overall lead at 2-under-par.

Kalispell’s Ryan Porch and Scottsdale, Arizona’s Andrew Medley are each two strokes back at even par in a tie for third place. Whitefish’s Kyle Mossfeldt is tied with Krause in fifth.

Women’s leader Maggie Crippen, of Missoula, shot a 6-over 78 while a handful of competitors took advantage of on the North Course. Crippen lost her four-stroke lead and fell back to third place, three strokes behind younger sister Sadie.

Sadie Crippen shot 1-under 71 to take the lead at even par for the tournament, sitting one stroke ahead of University of Montana teammate Hailey Hoagland of Butte.

The top three women are separating themselves from the competition. Bozeman’s Haylee Folkvord is nine strokes back in fourth place and Kalispell’s Teigan Avery 11 behind in fifth.

Whitefish’s Carroll Lilly is the only leader holding form, increasing his lead in the senior men’s tournament to nine strokes at 3-under-par 140 for the tournament.

Play concludes today with the leaders teeing off at 1:40 p.m., the men on the North Course and the women on the South Course.
