Firefighters respond to two small fires

Firefighters called to two small firesFirefighters were called to two small wildfires Monday, both of which appeared under control by evening.

Department of Natural Resources and Conservation firefighters knocked down a quarter-acre fire on Bitterroot Drive in Marion that was reported Monday afternoon. It was on patrol status several hours later.

Firefighters also responded to a quarter-acre brush fire on Torto Loop Road in Kila Monday evening.

Whitefish Police Department was tapped by a 911 caller Sunday night to do something about over-full trash cans downtown. Dispatch referred the caller to the private company that handles the city’s trash.

A dog walked into a bar and the bartender called 911. The dog was taken to the police station, where it was claimed by a dog-sitter.

Officers with the Columbia Falls Police Department responded to multiple complaints of fireworks being set off within city limits. In one case, the caller said a group of people were continuing to light fireworks after they started a small grass fire that had gone out.

Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a suicide in Columbia Heights on Monday afternoon. Sheriff Chuck Curry said a man had shot himself in his car at the park-and-ride lot after getting into an argument with his girlfriend.
