Charge in alleged stabbing dropped

Authorities have dropped a charge of felony assault with a weapon filed against a man for allegedly stabbing a man.

As part of the plea agreement signed Thursday, the assault charge against Robert Wayne Snide Jr., 31, was dismissed.

He had been accused of stabbing a man at a residence south of Kalispell in December 2015.

Snide changed his plea to guilty to felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs for possessing 40 pills of alprazolam without a valid prescription and misdemeanor theft for stealing acetylene tanks and other construction gear from a construction business last year.

He will be sentenced by Flathead District Judge Amy Eddy on Sept. 8.

After he wraps up his legal issues in Montana, it is likely that Snide will be sent to Michigan to face more legal repercussions.

The governor of Michigan has signed an extradition warrant for Snide, who stopped reporting to probation officers in 2012.

He was on probation for 2011 convictions for felony larceny and operating a methamphetamine lab.

According to his probation and parole report, Snide had 52 prior criminal offenses at the time of his conviction for larceny.

Having 25 offenses on a criminal record is considered a high number under Michigan sentencing guidelines.

At a bail reduction hearing earlier this year, a Flathead County sheriff’s deputy testified that Snide had been in contact with law enforcement in Flathead County at least 20 times before he was taken into custody for the stabbing and theft of acetylene tanks.
