LEGION ROUNDUP: Twins outlast Lakers A in first of back-to-back series
WHITEFISH — A double from Tyler Murphy and bases-loaded walk from Vinny Smith in the eighth inning lifted the Glacier Twins A over cross-Valley rival Kalispell Lakers A 4-2 in an American Legion baseball game on Tuesday night at Memorial Park.
Murphy’s extra-base hit scored Skylar Warner and looked to be insurance runs in the nine-inning contest, giving the Twins a 4-1 lead.
Kalispell got one back with no outs in the top of the ninth on a double from Eric Seaman and had the tying run on base when the final three batters went down in order.
Glacier opened the scoring in the second inning, Murphy scoring Greyson Bistodeau on a single through the left side of the infield. The Lakers tied the game on an error in the fourth inning only for the Twins to retake the lead on an error in the eighth.
Murphy’s second hit of the game proved to be the game winner in the first game of a back-to-back with the Kalispell A squad. The teams will meet again today in Kalispell.
Murphy was 2 for 4 and he and Smith each had a pair of RBIs in the win. Warner had three hits for the Twins.
Ryan Symmes led the Lakers, going 2 for 4 from the plate and Seaman was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Today’s game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Griffin Field.
