LAW ROUNDUP: Fowl play has officers talking turkey

A man on Quincy Loop admitted to Kalispell Police Department to having chickens and four turkeys. He was advised he couldn’t have turkeys within city limits and was given a week to remove them from the premises. On the other hand, he was given a permit for having the chickens.

A woman notorious for pushing a dog around town in a shopping cart was sighted inside a Second Street West business allegedly yelling and bothering customers as they walked in. She was removed from the building and trespassed.

Police responded to a report of intoxicated pedestrians on U.S. 2 West. One of the pedestrians was “bleeding profusely” yet refused medical attention.

A front desk clerk on U.S. 93 South was concerned for the safety of a woman wearing a hospital gown who had a bottle of wine. The clerk said the woman claimed she was in a car accident earlier and may have left the hospital — where her clothes were being washed — without permission.

Someone on U.S. 93 North said a man was beating a woman up in the parking lot then drove off before coming back to pick her up. The woman got out of the vehicle at a stop sign and the man allegedly began throwing items at her. The man was also said to have driven toward her like he was going to run her over.

Someone’s wife was reportedly “freaking out” and breaking things on Third Avenue West.


Although a man on Margaret Court in Whitefish was being served papers, he told Flathead County Sheriff’s Office about his unhappiness that the person serving the papers allegedly came into his house claiming the door was ajar and to his bedroom door waking him up.

A rifle was reported stolen on Shady Lane in Kalispell.

A man was afraid to approach a large, long-horned steer that found its way into the backyard of his Flathead Drive residence.

A woman on Swan Retreat in Bigfork thought it was “sleazy salesmanship” when a door-to-door saleswoman she bought books from reportedly used her name as a reference and claimed that the book purchaser sent the saleswoman to sell books.

A rainbow was the cause of someone’s alleged reckless driving on Montana 83 when the driver was going “very slow” to get a picture.


An unexpected discovery concerned a professional doing an inspection in the crawl space of a building on Diane Road. He told Columbia Falls Police Department he found a “massive amount” of what he thought could possibly be dry blood.


Whitefish Police Department received a report from someone at a Baker Avenue business who told police he or she had surveillance footage of a person who reportedly stole items and tried to return them for cash.

A Columbia Avenue resident was displeased that a neighbor drove through her yard to access wood. The neighbor was trespassed from the property by officers.

Three men and a dog were singing and playing instruments for money on Central Avenue, which irritated someone enough to call police. While there is no city ordinance on panhandling, a street provision from city council states that performers are limited to the grassy area on the west side of Spokane. The singing trio moved along.

A passed out man and a woman were seen at Depot Street.

An online seller with some savvy on Iowa Avenue reported to police that the check she received for an item she sold on Craigslist was fraudulent, after she called the company listed on the check to confirm it’s validity. Although she had put the check in her bank, she had not yet shipped or given the items to the buyer.


Swan Mission Search and Rescue and Bigfork Fire Department responded to an overturned sailboat on Swan Lake and arrived as the two passengers safely swam to land wearing life jackets. Search and Rescue President Carol Field said after the boat tipped over, its mast got stuck in the mud. She said a neighbor helped free the mast, and the boat went upright.


Kalispell Fire Department responded to an elevator rescue on First Avenue East.
