Nine park rangers and two fire personnel responded to a Fourth of July car crash in Glacier National Park that halted traffic on Going-to-the-Sun Road for at least two hours, a park spokeswoman said Wednesday.

According to Margie Steigerwald, a 36-year-old man from Bothell, Washington, was driving a passenger car that strayed over the center line Monday afternoon about four miles from Apgar.

He and the other driver, a 55-year-old man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, were not injured.

The driver from Bothell was cited for unsafe vehicle operation, but Steigerwald said Tuesday that park investigators do not believe alcohol was involved.

A 38-year-old woman in his passenger seat refused medical treatment. Two back-seat passengers, a 59-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man who were visiting from India, were transported to the hospital.

Two passengers in the other car were from Albuquerque: a 20-year-old man who refused medical treatment and a 55-year old woman who was airlifted to the hospital in Kalispell with possible back injuries. A man and woman, both 25 years old from Evanston, Illinois, were riding in the back seat and were transported to the hospital by ground ambulance.
