WHITEFISH — McKabe Cottrell battled through five gutty innings on the hill, then doubled home the game-tying run to lead the Spokane Cannons to a 4-3 win over the Glacier Twins A Friday night at Memorial Park, handing the Twins a second straight loss at the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial tournament.

Cottrell walked four and allowed six hits in five innings of work but allowed only the three Glacier runs. With the Twins leading 3-2 heading to the bottom of the fifth, Cottrell doubled home Trent Seek with the tying run. The Cannons scored the go-ahead run later in the inning on an error.

Glacier jumped in front with a two-run third, scoring first when Colten Parker doubled to score Tyler Murphy and adding another run one batter later when Max Smyley plated Parker with a single to center. The Twins extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth, scoring via a Murphy RBI single.

A.J. Wetsch went the distance on the mound in a losing effort, surrendering eight hits and striking out two in six innings.

The Twins are winless through the first two days of their host event.

Glacier will get two more cracks at a victory in the tournament Saturday, beginning at noon when it takes on the Spokane Expos, who are also winless through the first two days. The Twins play again at 8 p.m. against the Lethbridge Elks.
