LAW ROUNDUP: People decide to 'hug it out'

People preparing to fight with each other on First Avenue East quickly changed their tune. According to Kalispell Police Department dispatchers — “subjects now hugging it out.”

A man requested an officer presence in a bar where a bartender was allegedly over-serving “some rednecks” and said the bartender kept taking keys away from people and giving them back. His concern was that the “very intoxicated” patrons would drive.

Another call came in from North Meridian Road and West Idaho Street — possibly from the same man — to advise police that the “drunk rednecks” were talking about how they were going to “kick the cops' a----.” The caller didn’t want to give more information and when asked for his name he allegedly said “f--- off, you know, f--- off,” then hung up. When officers spoke with bar patrons everything appeared OK and the people causing the disturbance had left.

A reported meth addict was “freaking out” on Airport Road and Morning Star Drive and may have been hallucinating while driving.

A passerby saw five to six men and women yelling and swearing at each other while things were being taken from one vehicle and put into another vehicle on First Avenue East North.

A passerby reported to police that a woman with a gash on her head got out of a vehicle and was crying as she stood on the corner of Treeline Road and U.S. 93 North asking for money. The passerby thought a man in the vehicle was forcing her to do this. Officers discerned the woman was intoxicated, the gash was several days old and she was advised not to panhandle.

A man and woman on North Meridian Road were allegedly pushing each other around and screaming.

A man on Seventh Avenue East said his girlfriend allegedly came home drunk, tried to kick him out, threw a beer can at him and then left again possibly driving drunk in a vehicle that he said had empty beer cans under the seat. The man had also been drinking and wanted a ride from police to another residence.

People were spotted dumpster diving on Liberty Street and took tables. Officers deemed nothing illegal occurred.

A juvenile was cited for possession of drugs on Fourth Avenue West.


Whitefish Police Department heard from a woman on Baker Avenue who just wanted to say “thank you” to the officers who protected her this past week and was “really heavy hearted due to the shootings in Dallas.”

The owner of a hot dog cart was displeased to find he couldn’t move the cart because a man had chained his bicycle to it and went into a bar. The man allegedly refused to move the bicycle after repeatedly being asked. Police finally got the obstinate bicyclist to move his bike.

A woman told police her husband threatened to kill her and take her daughter. The woman said he also grabbed a stick and beat her.


Columbia Falls Police Department received a call from someone who said his or her mailbox was smashed on Beth Road and there may be surveillance footage.

There was concern that a very drunk man, who could barely walk, would get hit by a vehicle on Ninth Street West. The man was dropped off at home.

A man with a broken leg in a cast called police from a store requesting a ride home because he was unable to walk and he only had $5 and could not pay for a taxi.
