One year after helping Glacier win its first state championship in school history, Thomas Trefney was arguably even better as a senior last fall. With most of the weapons around him from the title-winning season lost to graduation, Trefney was the focal point of the Wolfpack’s prolific offense and rewarded his coaches and teammates with a Class AA best 1,656-yard, 23-touchdown season.

After the season, Trefney was feted for his efforts, earning first team all-state and Western AA Player of the Year honors. Trefney, who will play at Carroll College this fall, ran for 52 touchdowns in only two seasons of varsity football to break Cut Bank’s Mike Kowalski’s 25-year-old all-class state record.

Trefney had a sensational two-year career with the Wolfpack, but his most memorable performance came in the 2014 state championship game. In Glacier’s 56-19 beatdown of Great Falls C.M. Russell at Legends Stadium, he ran for 201 yards and four first half touchdowns on just 22 carries.
