LETTER: Field of profanities?
I am writing to express my concern regarding the unprofessionalism displayed at the Kalispell Lakers baseball field. While previous games at that field have been unpleasant to attend, in that it seems the announcers are not impartial; most recently, I experienced what I could only characterize as unsportsmanlike behavior coming from the announcers booth.
On July 6, while attending the Lakers/Twins game, I witnessed extremely unprofessional behavior coming from the announcing booth staff. After a questionable play at home base, the gentleman working in the announcing booth shouted vulgarities out over the field multiple times. These kinds of expletives have no place in a family environment. Additionally, it seemed this behavior on the part of a “staff” instigated similar behavior in the crowds.
The environment at that particular field is disrespectful and causes a very unpleasant event. Unfortunately, this type of treatment has permeated the normally competitive but enjoyable atmosphere, which is displayed at other fields, and instead made it an atmosphere of intimidation and bullying.
Lastly, as “America’s pastime,” baseball is supposed to be a fun event to be shared by all, young and old. While most of my children are of age, that does not mean that others who attend these games don’t have young children attending, markedly the younger siblings of most of the players. It is concerning and actually embarrassing to think that an environment of disregard and profanity is what we call “America’s pastime.”
