LAW ROUNDUP: Territorial panhandlers get testy

Kalispell Police Department responded to a panhandling incident on U.S. 93 North and Treeline Road when a woman called and said she thought a man was going to go hurt someone after she told him “it was her turn” and alleged that he became “very belligerent” with her. Officers observed the pair for a while and told the woman and man “to stop calling and play nice with others or get out.”

Someone on Ninth Street West called police and said “his data was shut off due to visiting a porn website.”

A trio of men, one reportedly “highly intoxicated,” was allegedly bothering artists trying to set up for an event at Depot Park.

Someone on West Idaho Street found a jackknife next to a pile of cable stripped of its copper.

A woman was not happy that her ex calls her a lot and allegedly sent an inappropriate package to her East Nicklaus Avenue house, charging it to her credit card.

A woman who was reportedly asking customers for money on Third Avenue East North refused to leave when asked and was escorted from the business.


A grumpy Fifth Street East resident called Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to report that people at a wedding were “raising Cain.”

Clothing and a skeleton was reported stolen at a woman’s Hill Top Trail Court residence.

Someone on Bobtail Cutoff Road told deputies that people allegedly keep trespassing to pick berries.

A suspicious person went into the jail lobby and said “it is hard to get arrested in Lincoln County” and wanted to talk to an officer.

Someone wanted police to come and talk to a man who kept yelling obscenities at bank employees.

A man’s foot was allegedly run over by his girlfriend during an argument on Lime Creek Road.


Someone on Fourth Avenue East North had just about enough of “obnoxious” weeds to call Columbia Falls Police Department. Dispatchers said they would send a letter about the weed ordinance.

Police received a report from Ninth Street West that kids were in a parking lot approaching customers and asking for cigarettes.

A man called police from out-of-state after his 10-year-old niece called him alleging her mother choked her. Officers learned that the girl’s mother took her tablet away and the daughter reportedly struck her so the mother grabbed and shoved her into her room, but not until after the girl bit her arm. An officer explained to the girl that “parents have the right to discipline their children and she should not strike her mother and do what is asked of her,” and was advised that she could talk to officers anytime she felt the need to.

Whitefish Police Department responded to a report that a person allegedly picked up a syringe and handed it to another male on Flathead Avenue.

A panhandler with a bunch of luggage was getting angry when he didn’t get money, according to someone on East Second Street.

Employees of an East Second Street restaurant locked themselves inside the building when a shirtless man and a man wearing a tank top were threatening them from an alley and refusing to leave.

A man wearing all black apparently thought a sidewalk on East Second Street was as good of a place as any to lie down for a bit.


Montana Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle accident on Sportsman’s Bridge on Montana 82. A vehicle was headed westbound on Montana 82 when the vehicle to hit a guardrail, blocking traffic. The driver told a trooper there were issues with the steering wheel causing the crash. There were no passengers in the vehicle or other vehicles involved in the crash. The man had minor injuries.


Someone on Ringneck Drive in Kalispell was concerned for the safety of about 10 to 12 kids spotted jumping off a vehicle and a bridge into the river. The kids apologized to Flathead County Sheriff’s Office and said they would “stay out of the way.” An officer advised them “to be safe and make good decisions based on safety and advised [them] not to block the road.”

Officers responded to a report on Jellison Road in Columbia Falls that a woman said her ex-boyfriend allegedly hit her in the back of the head.

A Hungry Horse man allegedly threatened to kill a man on Jensen Road in Columbia Falls and eat his dog.

Extra patrol was requested on Cynthia Drive in Kalispell after someone saw three different people ride in on bicycles, go into an unoccupied house and leave with “stuff.”

Road rage was unfolding on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell when a vehicle allegedly stopped in front of a man and he could see the driver was holding a gun. The man said he followed the vehicle home, and now they were following him.

A woman was spotted reportedly snorting a substance on a train at Depot Park in Whitefish.

A woman on Parliament Drive in Kalispell said she saw nine males wearing dark clothing walking around and thought she saw one who had a gun holster and overheard one of the men say, “This is the street where they got the stuff.” Deputies did not find a large group; however, officers talked with three males who were playing “Pokémon Go” on their phones.
