Posse hears about Glacier Park

The Northwest Montana Posse of Westerners meets Monday, July 18. Glacier Park Superintendent Jeff Mow will present a program titled “Historic Context for the Future of Glacier National Park.”

Mow has been the park’s superintendent since August 2013. Much of his 27 years with the National Park Service has been in Alaska, where he had eight duty stations over 22 years. Glacier Park is his fourth superintendence with the Park Service. He will discuss the park and how its history shapes what it may choose to be in the future. According to Mow, there is little question that the park will be challenged in its ability to manage both historic and natural resources given the increased uncertainties around climate change. Discussion and examples of how some elements of the park’s historic past provide inspiration to move into entirely new directions of park management.

The Posse of Westerners’ mission is to encourage and promote interest, research in and archiving of the history of the American West in general and Northwest Montana in specific.

The meeting will be held at the Red Lion Hotel Kalispell, starting at 5:30 p.m. for a grab ’n’ greet session and book signings by local authors. Dinner is at 6:15 p.m. (reservations required; $19 includes the presentation).

The presentation is at 7 p.m. which is free for members, youths under 16, and nonmembers with dinner reservations. There is a cost of $5 for nonmembers attending the presentation only. For a dinner reservations, contact 755-7339; or email jmonk@centurytel.net.
