LETTER: Gun control makes no sense
On the Inter Lake’s July 15 Opinion page, there was an inane letter by Steve Wheat of Polson pertaining to the Second Amendment. Mr. Wheat apparently wants to restrict private ownership of weapons by normal law-abiding Americans.
Mr. Wheat with his perverted and skewed letter wishes the Inter Lake readers to believe that the round-up and confiscation of all guns from the aforementioned will cure the “problem” of deaths due to these weapons being in the hands of people with “cowboy movie” instincts.
Please! Let us all as readers realize not only the fallacy of such inane thinking as shown by the Mr. Wheats of the world. Most law-abiding citizens don’t live in a “cowboy movie,” but they hope to live in a safe world where guns don’t have to be used even in self-defense.
The writer demonstrates vividly the extreme loony fringe of those in our society who gleefully jump on every opportunity to blame the gun (or the Second Amendment itself) for every gun-related happening anywhere.
Mr. Wheat, in Nice, France, a person driving a truck killed more than 80 people. What would be your next argument? To disarm all law-abiding citizens by taking away their cars? We’re waiting, sir. —Will Elliott, Polson
