WEEKEND UPDATE: The Event at Rebecca Farm
The Event at Rebecca Farm is this weekend west of Kalispell.
The world-class event is the largest equestrian eventing competition in the United States and draws top national and international riders for cross-country, dressage and show-jumping competition.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Admission is free. A donation of $10 is suggested for parking to support Halt Cancer at X. You will receive one program for each $10 donation. Additional programs can be purchased at the Hospitality Tent.
The Event also features an art and trade fair with more than 90 vendors and food concessionaires.
The Kid Zone offers pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts and bounce houses.

Whitefish work day
The Whitefish Parks and Recreation Department sponsors a volunteer work day from 9 a.m. to noon today at the Bakke Nature Preserve to remove fencing and perform other cleanup projects. Volunteers should bring work gloves, wear long pants and sturdy shoes.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation office at 510 Railway St. to carpool to the park.
Honoring law officers
Kalispell’s Cabela’s hosts a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in honor of all local law enforcement officers.
Each department will be presented with thank-you notes and words of encouragement that have been collected throughout the week from community members. Free refreshments and barbecue food will be available for all attending officers.
Kalispell Mayor Mark Johnson will arrive at noon.
Pioneer photographer
The Crown of the Continent Research Learning Center at Glacier National Park hosts a brown bag luncheon presentation from noon to 1 p.m. today by co-authors Ren and Helen Davis at the park’s Community Building in West Glacier. The presentation is free and open to the public.
The talk, titled “The Unknown Elder: George Alexander Grant, First Chief Photographer of the National Park Service,” will present Grant’s photographs (several featuring Glacier), his biography and role as chief photographer for the National Park Service.
Airmen reunion
Dedication of a plaque commemorating the service of the airmen (716 RADS) who served at the Lakeside Air Force Base takes place at 6:15 pm. today at the Youth With A Mission Base, 501 Blacktail Road, Lakeside.
About 40-plus former airmen will be attending along with their with families. A barbecue precedes the ceremony at 5 p.m.
River Run
The Bigfork River Run Walk 5K is Saturday along the scenic Swan River Trail in Bigfork. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Register at 406running.com, or race day registration is at 7:30 a.m. at Bigfork Elementary School.
A handcrafted Morley Canoe paddle will be presented to the overall male and female winners. Handcrafted medallions will be handed out to the top three placers in each age group. Raffle prizes will be given out (must be present to win).
The event is the sole source of funding for Bigfork’s cross-country team and will be run along the scenic Swan River Trail in Bigfork.

Clothing tour
The Conrad Mansion Museum in Kalispell sponsors a historic clothing tour at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The 90-minute Celebrating 100 Years of Fashion 1868-1968 tour takes guests behind closed doors through areas of the museum not accessible on regular tours and features secret compartments.
The cost is $28 per person, and $25 for members. The price includes a 14-page booklet of the collection. Reservations are required. Call 755-2166.
Garden tour
The Flathead County Democratic Women’s Garden Tour fundraiser is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The tour showcases a newly planted garden; a garden featuring dwarf and various specimens of plants and flowers; flower and vegetable gardens; rock work, driftwood and more.
Gardens are located on the east side of Kalispell, in newer housing developments outside the city, and overlooking Flathead Lake.
Hours for the self-guided garden tour are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Advance tickets are $20, available by calling 253-7880. Tickets will be available the day of event at 501 Fourth Ave. E., Kalispell.
Dance show
“Changing Balance/Balancing Change,” an interactive dance performance created by CoMotion Dance Project from the University of Montana, premieres at 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Lake McDonald Lodge in Glacier National Park on Sunday.
The hourlong performance is free to the public and weaves artistic dance, original music, narration, video and live interactions with the audience.
All ages are welcome to enjoy the program created by CoMotion Dance Project from the University of Montana.
