The flight was part of a training academy at the Sands Concepts and Unmanned Systems Inc. facility near Columbia Falls. Twelve Civil Air Patrol cadets from 11 states attended the five-day academy. Yaralian and Justin Sands, an owner of Sands Unmanned Aviation and Unmanned Systems Inc., provided the training.
Zane Phillips, a Civil Air Patrol Cadet from Arkansas, controls a quadcopter during the Unmanned Aviation Systems Cadet Training on Thursday. The cadets were taught how the basic skill sets to control a quadcopter and hexcopter. They learned how to take off, land and maneuver.
A Sandstorm Trainer unmanned aviation system makes a low pass during the Civil Air Patrol Unmanned Aviation Systems Cadet Training Academy in Columbia Falls on Thursday. The trainer was one of four fixed wing aircraft the cadets were trained on during the 5-day academy.
