LETTER: Believe in God to find answer to world's woes

| July 26, 2016 10:32 AM

So, one must mumble with gritted teeth the inevitable question in this unique election year....Whom between two unsettling characters do I trust to lead a nation sharply divided from within and threatened from without? A society torn by festering internal racial unrest while bullied by sadistic external fanatics of no conscience.

The answer, perhaps, is rooted in the horribly coined expression, “Seeing is Believing.” Never before have we seen less in which to believe than the current offerings for Oval Office. Never before have we witnessed more contagious hatred and societal ignorance than the present American bloodshed unveils. A carpet of crimson, rolled out and tacked to our country’s floor through the able hands of a shrewd manipulative media and its host of interest groups with clutched agendas, bent on boiling blood for the sake of the sacred story. The scoop. The headline. The voices from “Field of Dreams” cooing in our ears, “If you build it, they will come!”  And now, the social media with its array of techy trappings and spontaneous gratification HAS built it, but the night of the living dead has come in their stead...

At a pivotal time, in a transitional world, amid a confused culture searching for identity, let alone a gender to call one’s own,..... in these paradoxically “enlightened” times, just maybe, “seeing” isn’t nearly as important as “believing.”

If we do not know what or whom to invest our trust among the offerings of Mankind, what should shackle us from taking God from his dusty shelf to give Him His turn at unwaxing our ears and sharpening our eyes?  Yes, that choice would not be fashionable, much less able to fit into our Gucci handbag of personal necessities.

Perhaps it is time for a change of wardrobe. A desperate  time at last to believe in the Unseen and Unheard to find our answer.
