Missoula's Crippen pulls away at Women's State Am golf
HELENA — Missoula’s Maggie Crippen pulled away from the field in the second round of the Montana State Women’s Amateur golf championships on Wednesday at Green Meadow Country Club, carding the only round under par to carry a comfortable lead into the final day of play.
Crippen carded a pair of birdies on both the front and back nine to counter a rough round on the par 3s and finish at 1-under-par 72. She is at even par for the tournament, seven strokes ahead of defending champ Dorsey Addicks of Gallatin Gateway.
Addicks played even par in the second round to stay at 7-over-par and move into second place from eighth.
Kalispell’s Teigan Avery is in third place at 8-over. Libby’s Jackie Mee is in a tie for fourth with Townsend’s Bailee Dexter at 9-over.
Montana City’s Mary Bryson took control of the senior leaderboard in the second round, playing 9-over to rise to 16-over for the tournament. She holds a four-stroke lead on Missoula’s Jo Smith and Hamilton’s Julie Embleton.
Defending champ Karen Jacobson of Whitefish is ninth, 15 strokes back at 31-over. Libby’s Bobbie Lacklen is eighth at 28-over.
