EDITORIAL: Lend a hand to our firefighters
Public-safety organizations from across the Flathead Valley and beyond will converge Sunday on Legends Stadium in Kalispell — and everyone is invited to join in.
The Firefighter Walk-a-Mile fundraiser is from 3 to 9 p.m. on the Legends track.
The event is a benefit for the Smith Valley Fire Department, which suffered a senseless loss when its Foy’s Lake station was set on fire early this month.
Firefighters and others are taking pledges for Sunday’s fundraiser. They will walk at least a mile around the track.
Our firefighters (and citizen participants if they want) will do so while bearing the burden of 75 pounds of firefighting gear.
This is a chance for people to show their support for our firefighting volunteers who are always there to help us. Now they need our help.
It promises to be a big community event (upwards of 1,000 people are expected) that will be fun for children, families and everyone. Come on out and join the fun.

Fun at Heritage Days
Another major community event is going on this weekend in Columbia Falls as the North Valley city celebrates its annual Heritage Days.
From community markets and a concert tonight through a golf tournament Sunday, there is plenty of fun to be had in Columbia Falls.
Saturday’s the busiest day for events. People can choose activities ranging from athletic (three-on-three basketball or the Boogie to the Bank running race in the morning), to traditional (the main parade at noon down Nucleus Avenue) or Western-themed (a wild horse drive, barn dance and rodeo in the afternoon and evening).
Whichever attraction entices you, Columbia Falls is the place to be this weekend.
