BRIEFS: 34th Annual Big Mountain Run Aug. 6

The Glacier Nordic Club will host its 34th annual Big Mountain Run on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m.

The 3.8-mile course begins at the Danny On Trailhead at Whitefish Mountain Resort and ends at the summit.

The fastest male and female finishers will be named King and Queen of the mountain, and the fastest dog — accompanied by a runner — will also be honored.

Registration is $15 per person or $35 per family. Junior runners (age 16 and under) are $8. All runners will receive a free chair lift ride down after the race.

Interested runners can register at www.runsignup.com or on the day of the race from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Proceeds from the run benefit the non-profit Glacier Nordic Ski Team.

Whitefish H.S. sets volleyball meetings

The Whitefish volleyball team is seeking girls interested in playing for the Bulldogs this fall.

Any Whitefish students — grades 9-12 — interested in participating are asked to attend a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 9 at 6 p.m.

The meeting will be held in the girls locker room at the school and paperwork required for the season will be distributed at that time.

Season tryouts are scheduled for Aug. 12 at 7 a.m.

16th hole surrenders ace at Meadow Lake

COLUMBIA FALLS — Adam Bierschenk pulled out a pitching wedge and sank a hole-in-one at the 137-yard 16th hole at Meadow Lake Golf Course on Thursday.

The Bozeman resident’s shot was witnessed by Nathan Stoll, JD Greany and Jason Moothart.

Hole-in-one drops in at Village Greens

Darren Sanderson carded an ace on the 140-yard 5th hole at Village Greens Golf Course Friday morning.

Sanderson used a 9-iron and the hole-in-one was witnessed by Ian Brick, Carli Sanderson and Justin McLeod.
