Robert W. Selton Jr., 66

| July 31, 2016 6:30 AM

Robert “Bob” Selton of Longwood, Florida, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016, peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Cynthia Selton, and family.

Bob was born in Fort Benning, Georgia, in June of 1950 to Evelyn K. and Col. Robert W. Selton Sr. He was an Army brat and graduated high school from Frankfurt American High, Germany. He attended Rollins College, where he earned his undergraduate degree in 1972 and a Master of Business Administration degree in 1973 from the Crummer Graduate School of Business. Bob rowed crew and played soccer for the Tars, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

He had a long career in real estate at Amelia Island Plantation. He worked in sales and development throughout his career and life. People have always stated he was successful because of his work ethic, knowledge, fairness and intuition.

Bob was an active member of his community. He was past president of the Rotary of Fernandina Beach, past board member of First Coast Community Bank (Synovus Bank), past president of Amelia Island Montessori School, past member of Rollins College board of trustees, past Rollins College Alumni board president, past member on the Florida State College at Jacksonville board of directors, past Minorca property owner board member, past Amelia Island Sea Turtle Patrol member, and he coached many sporting teams (swimming, baseball and soccer) through the years.

Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed working with his hands. He enjoyed everything from walleye fishing in Canada, whitewater rafting, skiing, hiking in the wilderness, to ranching and riding horses in Montana. He became a Montana rancher over the last 20 years, and that became his passion and a job where he could do all that he loved.

He was an Eagle Scout, and he taught his son and grandchildren the skills needed to understand life, nature, wildlife, safety and survival. The grandkids told others their “Papa was the smartest man in the world.”

He was a devoted husband for over 20 years, the foundation for his son and two daughters, a pillar of strength for his brothers, a teacher for his grandkids, and will be missed and never forgotten by all his friends, family and those who worked and knew him over the years.
