A Columbia Falls man has denied using a fishing spear to threaten his father on April 20.

Braden Kyle Scott, 21, pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a weapon on Thursday before Flathead District Judge Robert Allison.

Columbia Falls Police Chief Dave Perry has said that the father was not injured in the incident, but Scott allegedly threatened to hurt the man with a fishing spear.

Attorney Scott G. Hilderman requested that Scott be given the opportunity to attend drug treatment in San Diego while he is out on bond.

“His treatment will last anywhere from 30 days to 6 months,” Hilderman said.

Prosecutor Alison Howard did not oppose the treatment plan.

“I’m on board with him going to this treatment program in California,” Howard said.

A jury trial is slated for mid-October.
