Legion baseball: Glacier Twins A go 5-0 at School's Out Classic

POST FALLS, Idaho — The Glacier Twins A wrapped up three days of play in the Prairie Cardinals School’s Out Classic American Legion baseball tournament on Sunday by defeating the Missoula Prospects 14-11 in the championship game and Miles City earlier in the day 9-1.

The Twins (13-6 overall) went 5-0 in Post Falls and outscored the opposition 49-19.

“We hit the ball well,” Glacier coach Bob Rupp said.

“We had great pitching today and our middle relief is doing an awesome job. Everything is clicking.”

Nine Twins batters had hits against the Prospects, led by Jonny Sapa and A.J. Wetsch. Both were 3 for 3 with two RBI. The team totaled 17 hits.

Max Smyley, Ryan Veneman, Vinny Smith and Jesse Walburn had two hits each. Smith drove in three runs. Veneman doubled and tripled while Tyler Murphy, Smith and Wetsch all had doubles.

Wetsch scored three times.

Glacier gave up six runs to Missoula in the first inning, but bounced back with nine runs in the bottom half of the second inning, sending 12 batters to the plate. Veneman tripled in that inning.

Against Miles City, Walburn went 3 for 3 and scored twice while Smith was 3 for 4 with two runs batted in.

Smith doubled twice.

Veneman, who also doubled, and Wetsch both drove in two runs.

Glacier plays at the Missoula Mavs today, the conference doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.

HAVRE — The Kootenai Valley Rangers outhit the Lethbridge Giants 8-5, but the Giants won the battle of runs scored on the final day of the North Stars Jamboree.

Sam Hannay, 3 for 4, drove in a run to lead the Rangers attack. He singled in the first fifth and seventh innings.

Hank Dunn, 2 for 4, scored for Kootenai Valley along with leadoff hitter Dawson Henrie, 1 for 4.

Mo Henderson went the distance on the mound for Kootenai Valley. He had five strikeouts and walked two batters.

POLSON — Mission Valley Mariners’ Micah McClure went the distance on the mound to win the second game of a Class A doubleheader with the Libby Loggers. McClure allowed 10 hits, but struck out eight and walked just one batter.

Jacob Harrod scored three times for the Mariners, who scored in every inning but the third.

Dylon Lane had three hits for Libby in four trips to the plate.

Mission Valley scored four times in the fifth and sixth innings to rally past Libby in the opener.

The Loggers scored in the first inning.

Harrod went 2 for 4, tripled and scored twice. Karsen Krebs, 1 for 3, drove in two runs.

Erik Lauer had two hits for Libby and Shayne Walker doubled.
