SPORTS BRIEFS: Glacier to host football scrimmage today

Fans can get their first look at the 2016 Glacier football team today when the Wolfpack hosts a scrimmage open to the public this afternoon at Glacier High School.

The team will practice from 4-5 p.m., with an intrasquad game to follow.

There is no charge to attend and food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Basketball tourney returns to Bigfork

BIGFORK — The Battle of the Bay 3-on-3 basketball tournament will take place on July 9 at Bigfork High School.

There will be male, female and coed divisions for players in first grade through adults.

Teams are restricted to four players with a registration fee of $125. For registration forms and more information visit missionvalley3on3.com.

Tennis tourney on tap in Polson

POLSON — Registration is open now for the 2016 Mission Valley Open, June 24-26 at Linderman Courts.

The cost of entry is $20 per entry per draw, with spots available in singles, doubles and mixed doubles in both the gold and silver division. All entrants are guaranteed at least two matches in the tournament.

Gold division singles champions will receive a $75 prize. All participants in the event will receive a tournament t-shirt.

Idaho extends Petrino

MOSCOW, Idaho — Idaho football head coach Paul Petrino was given a three-year contract extension on Thursday after approval from the Idaho State Board of Education, keeping the coach in Moscow through 2020, according to the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.

A Helena native, Petrino has led the Vandals to six wins in three seasons. Idaho was 4-8 last year. His annual base pay will rise to $178,526.

The Vandals will play in the Sun Belt Conference for two more seasons before rejoining the Big Sky Conference in 2018.

Osprey to host Celebrity Night on June 22

MISSOULA — The Destination Missoula Sports Commission is hosting what it calls “the largest gathering of Montana-based sports celebrities in one location” on June 22 at Ogren Park at Allegiance Field before the Missoula Osprey’s game against the Great Falls Voyagers.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and costs $50, a price that includes a ticket to that night’s baseball game, access to the meet-and-greet party area, a “home run” dinner with the celebrity guests, a commemorative poster for autographs, a game program and an Osprey hat.

Scheduled guests include current NFL players Colt Anderson, Chase Reynolds, Marc Mariani and Jordan Tripp, Flathead High School grads Lex Hilliard and Dylan McFarland, former Griz football coach Mick Delaney and 2015 Miss Montana Danielle Wineman, among many others.
