LETTER: Far-right begins propaganda to promote transfer of public lands

| June 19, 2016 9:15 AM

The onslaught of the far-right propaganda machine relative to the transfer of federal lands to state control has started in earnest. I am specifically referring to the far-right letter to the editor by Mark Agather in the April 24 Inter Lake.

The transfer of our public lands to state control is the very worst far-right idea I have heard of. The vast majority of Montanans reject this far-right idea as a ridiculous solution. The only way the state of Montana could come up with millions of dollars to manage public lands would be to sell off public lands to private land holders. Mark is just plain wrong about this issue. My property borders national forest lands and state lands. Recently they both logged these lands. I invite Mark Agather and any one else who might be interested to come out and see for yourself which government manages the best. I will personally show you the gate the state put in to lock you out.

Montanans cherish their public lands and want to keep them public. I believe you are on the losing side of this issue. —Tony Johnson, Troy
