LEGION ROUNDUP: Kalispell Lakers A hold off late rally from Libby Loggers

The Kalispell Lakers A built up a big lead and held off a strong rally from Libby on Monday, winning 6-5 at Griffin Field in a Western A American Legion baseball game.

Jaycob Serrano doubled in two of the Lakers three runs in the first inning and Keaden Morisaki doubled in two more in the second inning to lift the home squad off to a strong start.

Libby didn’t go away, however, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning on back-to-back doubles from Tanner Wood and Collin Johnson. After Kalispell picked up its sixth run later in the inning, the Loggers tightened the deficit again, this time with three runs in the sixth inning, fueled by three straight singles to lead off the inning.

It wasn’t enough though. The Loggers put two on with two outs in the top of the seventh inning only for Kalispell pitcher Sam Elliott to strike out the final batter of the game.

Elliott struck out nine batters in earning the narrow victory. Morisaki and Tyler Kitch were each 2 for 3 from the plate for the Lakers.

Seth Bateman was 2 for 3 for the Loggers.

BELGRADE — The Glacier Twins closed the Boys of Summer tournament on a high note, avenging a loss to the Boise Gems with a 4-2 win on Sunday morning.

A.J. Wetsch and Tyler Murphy kncoked in a pair of runs in the second inning to put the Twins on top and a sacrifice fly from Max Smyley was enough for Glacier to ride out its defense to a victory.

One outing after tossing a no-hitter, pitcher Jonny Sapa gave up a few more opportunities but was just as effective, holding Boise to just two runs in the contest, each on a triple from Gems outfielder Alex Smith.

The Twins avenged their first loss of the tournament, a 9-5 game to the Gems on Saturday.
