FRIDAY BRIEFS: Voisin wraps successful season, former Griz star inks big contract

SILVAPLANA, Switzerland — Whitefish skier Maggie Voisin finished third in the women’s skiing slopestyle World Cup season finale on Friday at Corvatsch Park.

Voisin, who was the top qualifier for the event, threw down a score of 69.60 in her top run, finishing behind Sweden’s Emma Dahlstrom and Switzerland’s Giulia Tanno.

Voisin’s top run began with a backside 270 off to a left 360 mute grab, right 720, left 900 tail grab, switch left 900 mute, a slide, then finished with a frontside out 270 off the rail.

Voisin finished the season ranked sixth in the world slopestyle rankings, the top American finisher. Norway’s Tiril Sjaastad Christiansen claimed the world title.

Michaels named to NWAC All-Region basketball team

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Wenatchee Valley College sophomore Bryan Michaels (Glacier) was named to the Northwest Athletic Conference all-Eastern Region basketball first team the confernece announced on Thursday.

Michaels, a 6-foot-3 forward, finished sixth in the conference in scoring, averaging 21.7 points per game, and ninth in rebounding with more than eight a game.

Wenatchee Valley finished the season 6-21 in Michaels’ final season for the Knights.

Rams CB Trumaine Johnson signs franchise tender

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson has signed his one-year franchise tender for $13.952 million, coach Jeff Fisher says.

Fisher made the announcement Friday, three days after the Rams placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on their starting cornerback.

Johnson, a star at the University of Montana, was third in the league with seven interceptions last season. He has started 33 games in four seasons with the Rams.

Johnson and the Rams still can negotiate on a long-term contract agreement until July 15.
