OPINION: No patience with Trump or Republicans
I just read Jack Sollars’ letter, “Trump Is A Loser,” in The Daily Inter Lake issue of Feb. 11. Wow! His words echo my opinion nearly to a “T.”
“The Donald’s” comments about John McCain INFURIATE me. One additional thing about Sen. McCain’s incarceration which may be common knowledge: He declined early release from the Hanoi Hilton when his captors learned of his importance, instead choosing to stand with his fellow POWs, thus enduring years more of captivity and torture. To see this real hero denigrated by “The Donald” should be deprecated by us all!
To comment further about the Republican presidential campaign, none of the other candidates would receive my vote for one reason: they all pledge to eliminate the Affordable Care Act. After the Republican debate on Feb. 25, CNN researched the truthfulness of some comments by candidates. Both Rubio’s and Cruz’s statements about ACA were revealed to be false.
I just researched the ACA website and learned some revealing results of a five-year analysis by the New England Journal of Medicine and The Commonwealth Fund. Impressive were their favorable five-year statistics. There are a number of other reputable foundations and organizations that have weighed in to the ACA on this website.
Citizens — stop rushing to judgment from the plethora of prejudicial political misinformation being fed to you. Go to the website and read the reports!
Two conclusions: My present mindset is that I would vote for Marco Rubio in a heartbeat were it not for his stand on the Affordable Care Act. And, I am appalled by the numbers of my fellow citizens who support the pompous, bombastic “loose cannon” who is Donald Trump. I understand the appeal of his promise to lead them out of the quagmire of political and big money interests.
Forgive me, folks, for the following analogy, however irrelevant it may be. In Manila decades ago, I found myself in the midst of a minor revolution. The golden-tongued orator who led his followers, many of them to their deaths, on a march to the Philippine Palace, had convinced them (armed only with swords) that the machine guns lined across the front of the palace would only spit out snakes when fired. For much of the day I watched truckloads of survivors and casualties being hauled away. Even though nothing even remotely similar would occur, the thought of Trump being my country’s leader frightens me no end.
