Evelyn A. Warren, 90

| March 11, 2016 6:22 PM

Evelyn A. Warren, 90, “went home to her loving Father” on March 7, 2016, after battles that old age brings.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1926, in Great Falls to Arthur and Helen McHugh, their only child.

After her mother’s death when she was 6, she attended boarding school at the Ursaline Academy, just blocks from her grandparents and 11 uncles and aunts. Her father visited her every weekend, although she missed her mother greatly. She spoke glowingly of her academy days with the nuns whom she loved dearly. She attended Holy Names College in Great Falls, graduating with a degree in English.

She was very independent and had an enormous zest for life; she learned how to pilot a plane and was interested in everything exciting, especially the man she married. She met Edward M. Warren while working as a social worker at Medical Lake, Washington, where she conducted him and a friend on a tour and immediately regarded him as “trouble.” So she married him in 1949 and wasted no time in starting a family in Spokane. They had six children; she wanted eight but settled for six.

Evelyn worked as a librarian in Spokane before the family moved to Kalispell where she worked for many years as a social worker. After Edward’s death in 2007, she stayed in Montana with the help of son Tim, then, as planned, moved to Wheatland Village in Walla Walla, Washington, where she made many new friends and enjoyed many activities, but especially arts and crafts and, her favorite with the assistance of good friend Elsie, gardening. Her family nickname was “Molly the Mulcher.”

Evelyn is survived by daughters Kathryn Amende of Marysville, Washington, and Janice Warren of Spokane; sons Timothy Warren of Spokane, Joseph Warren of Tillamook, Oregon, and Robert Warren (Albert Marshall) of Walla Walla; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, a son, Ned Warren, and grandsons Adam Carlberg and Noah Moore.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
