Kalispell schools set calendar for next year

School calendars have been approved by Kalispell Public Schools trustees for 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.

Human Resources Director Tracy Scott referred to the 2017-18 school calendar as a general template to provide an outlook beyond one year.

“We think it’s really important to bring forward two years — that way you’re always working a year ahead. It helps be able to communicate to the folks out there: the community, the parents and the teachers and the staff of where we’re going,” Scott said.

In the 2016-17 school year, the first day of school for students will be Aug. 31 and the last day will be June 9, 2017.

A half day is scheduled Dec. 22; winter break begins Dec. 23 and ends Jan. 2, 2017. Students will be out of school March 27 through March 31, 2017 for spring break.

There will be no school for professional development on Aug. 29-30, Oct. 20-21, Nov. 23, Jan. 16, Jan. 27 and March 27. Four early-out days for students are also scheduled for professional development on Sept. 28, Oct. 19, Nov. 16 and Feb. 22.
