LETTER: Creston water bottling plant? We all lose

| March 17, 2016 11:17 AM

Define for me “adverse effects.” DNRC says well owners may need to drill deeper wells when the aquifer level recedes. Is Lew Weaver going to pay for my new well? DNRC? When the water is at a critical low level is water going to be trucked BACK here? I don’t think so.

In Jean Rachubka’s letter (March 10) there is mention of California’s Crystal Geyser plant, which was determined to be releasing potent chemicals into the environment. The study performed before that plant opened didn’t think anything detrimental like that would happen either, but once it did — too late.

Jean also noted Lew Weaver as “a longer time resident.” Well, owning the property since 1989 isn’t all that long and since Lew Weaver came here from Beaumont, Calif., where he owned Weaver Mortuary and residential rental property he certainly isn’t trying to find a way to survive as if he’s got any financial woes. The inference in the front-page article that Lew is “just trying to survive” by coming up with a new business opportunity is a bunch of bull.

There are so many red flags in this business proposal it’s just mind boggling. Our area representatives and commissioner need to step up and take action erring on the side of caution and stop this venture before it’s too late.
