Firefighters responded to Schlegel Enterprises north of Somers Thursday afternoon after a slash fire burned out of control and set a small fuel tank ablaze.

Somers Fire Chief Tom Havens said the fire spread to the grass next to the slash pile, burning the fuel tank and threatening two others. Crews used a backhoe to move the tanks away from the flames.

About 15 firefighters and four fire engines from Somers/Lakeside, South Kalispell and Smith Valley fire departments contained the fire within about a half hour of arriving at the business located between Kalispell and Somers on U.S. 93.
