LETTER: Tester is right on CFAC now, but wrong before

| March 27, 2016 11:00 AM

Well, let’s hear it for Sen. Jon Tester. He still wants to see the old aluminum plant designated as a Superfund site for clean up.

I am behind him all the way. All the mess that was left behind that is hazardous and sitting right by the river needs to be removed and watched over as it’s done, not that I have confidence in the government to see that it’s done right...

My only question, Sen. Tester, is just where in the heck was your concern for the contamination when you were calling for the plant to be reopened and put back in production. I guess the wind was blowing the other way then, huh? You, sir, are so transparent that it boggles my mind how you keep getting elected.

I worked at that plant back in the 1970s as a pipe fitter and walked away at great personal sacrifice financially after 14 months because I was convinced it was not a healthy place to work, and if you don’t look out for yourself no one else will.

It now seems that you also would have agreed with me, senator. That others chose to work there was their business, but the health problems I was experiencing completely went away when I quit. Maybe it was a coincidence or maybe not, but I have never regretted it.
