TENNIS: Glacier sweeps Flathead to close unbeaten dual seasons

The Glacier boys and girls tennis teams closed out their dual seasons in record-setting fashion in a sweep of Flathead on Tuesday at Flathead Valley Community College.
Wolfpack senior Spencer Johnson set the school record for individual wins by a boys tennis player in beating Flathead’s Ridge Lembke 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Johnson passed Hunter Blalack, who graduated last year, for the most all-time wins at 69 for his career. Johnson, who won the state doubles title as a freshman, has 38 doubles victories and 31 at singles the past two seasons. Blalack won his all exclusively at singles.
The dual sweep also marks the first time both Glacier’s boys and girls teams finished the dual season undefeated. With only the Helena Invitational remaining, the Wolfpack boys finished the dual season at 10-0-1 and the girls at 7-0-4.
The Wolfpack boys cleared through Flathead on Tuesday, with Graham Friedman, Ryker McIntyre and Dylan Eve all joining Johnson with straight-set victories. Glacier also swept doubles play, dropping two games in three contested matches.
The girls had a little more trouble with the Bravettes.
Flathead’s Ellie Berreth won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Lauren McCarter 7-6, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Glacier would take the other six matches, with Shelby O’Dell and Tessa Howe winning in singles and the Wolfpack sweeping all four doubles matches in straight sets.
Both teams turn their focus to Helena on Friday and Saturday for the final tournament of the regular season. Western AA divisional play begins next weekend.
