Mickey Patrick McHugo, 83

Mickey Patrick McHugo, 83, passed away May 1, 2016, in Whitefish.

Mickey was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, to Patrick and Ruth (Goodale) McHugo. He was raised in the Tacoma area.

Mickey served in the U.S. Air Force for three years, then cross-trained into the U.S. Army for 19 more years.

After his discharge, Mickey moved to Deer Lodge and worked as supervisor for the license plate division. For several summers he took out wildland fire crews from the prison. In 1981, the remaining family moved to Texas, where he was employed by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office. He later moved to Granbury and worked as a Hood County sheriff’s deputy until his retirement. He returned to Montana in May 2012, where he resided at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.

He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick McHugo; stepfather, James Brown; mother, Ruth Brown; and wife, Mary Lou McHugo.

Mickey is survived by a brother, Dennis McHugo, and wife, Peggy, of Lacey, Washing-ton; sister, Jackie Brown, of Puyallup, Washington; and seven children, Billy Mike Phillips of Lubbock, Texas, Donald R. Doss and wife Pam of Medina, Ohio, Ronald G. Doss and Mark McHugo of Granbury, Texas, Dave Doss and wife Sophia of San Antonio, Texas, Sherry Maloughney of Condon, and Michael McHugo of Teague, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Northwest Montana Veterans Food Pantry or to the Montana Veterans Home.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at the Montana Veterans Cemetery in Columbia Falls.
