TRACK: Local collegians compete in postseason

GREELEY, Colo. — The Montana men finished second in the team standings of the Big Sky Conference outdoor track and field championships on Saturday on the campus of the University of Northern Colorado. Montana State finished in fifth.

Griz freshman Matt Quist (Flathead), who entered as a favorite in the high jump after clearing 7 feet earlier in the season, finished second by clearing 6-9.

Montana freshman Jess Beaman (Flathead) used a four-foot personal record to span 47-2 1/4 and finished fourth in the triple jump,

Jacob Leininger (Glacier), a redshirt senior for the Griz, finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles.

Emily Cheroske (Bigfork) finished eighth in the 800 meters and ran the third leg on seventh place 4x400 relay to help Griz women finish fifth.

Leah Cook (Glacier) finished eighth in the triple jump for the Montana State women, who finished eighth in the team standings.

Hulslander 3rd in javelin at Mountain West

CLOVIS, Calif. — U.S. Air Force Academy junior Taylor Hulslander (Glacier) finished third in the javelin at the Mountain West Conference outdoor track and field championships on Saturday.

Hulslander threw 193 feet, 10 inches and was one of four Falcons on the podium, with teammates finishing second, fourth and fifth.

Hulslander was named the Mountain West field athlete of the week a few days earlier after a win at the Air Force Twilight Open last weekend. He won javelin at the meet with a career-best throw of 217-4. It was the fifth best distance in academy history and the best in the Mountain West this season.

Boschee, Larson help NDSU women to Summit title

VERMILLION, S.D. — North Dakota State junior Lexy Boschee (Glacier) finished fourth in the heptathlon to help the Bison women to their ninth straight Summitt League outdoor track championship on Saturday.

Boschee, who injured her knee earlier in the year, finished the heptathlon with 4,560 points and was the last of four Bison finishers to top the multi-events.

Boschee also finished fourth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 5 inches; fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.57 seconds and 14th in long jump.

NDSU freshman Keyawna Larson (Glacier) finished fourth in the javelin, with a career-best throw of 149-8. It was the third best throw in school history.

Schulz helps St. John’s to third in Big East track

GENEVA, Ohio — St. John’s University sophomore Marlow Schulz (Whitefish) finished sixth in the finals of the 800-meter run at the Big East Conference outdoor track and field championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute.

Schulz finished in 2:13.41, six seconds behind the winner, Villanova’s Siofra Buttner.

Schulz ran the lead leg on the Red Storm’s 4x800 relay team, which finished second, 0.14 seconds off the pace of Georgetown.

The St. John’s women finished third as a team with 176 points, behind Marquette (196) and Villanova (179).

Langston eighth in hurdles at Big South track

LYNCHBURG, Va. — High Point University freshman Christian Langston (Eureka) finished eighth in the 110-meter hurdles at the Big South Conference outdoor track and field championships at Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex on the campus of Liberty University on Saturday.

Langston finished in 17.46 seconds in the finals, helping High Point to a fourth place finish in the men’s team rankings. He also finished 22nd in preliminaries for the 200.

Perrin in finals at Pac-12 track

SEATTLE — University of Colorado sophomore Zach Perrin (Flathead) advanced to finals in the 1,500-meter run at the Pac 12 Conference outdoor track and field championships on Saturday at Husky Stadium on the campus of the University of Washington.

Perrin finished fifth in his preliminary heat, crossing the line in a close cluster of front runners, finishing in 3:43.88, one of six that finished within 0.4 seconds of the lead.

He will be seeded ninth in today’s finals, staggered with finishers of the second heat.

Perrin’s top time in competition this season is 3:43.76 at the Stanford Invite, a race he finished in second place in early April.

Perrin will also run in the finals of the 5,000-meter run.
