The Kalispell Lakers annual Canadian Days American Legion baseball tournament is off to a wet start.

The Lakers AA and A teams both had their games washed out Friday evening versus the Calgary Cardinals and Calgary Redbirds A, respectively.

The Mission Valley Mariners and Calgary Redirds AA opened the three-day tournament with a 5 p.m. contest at Griffin Field, but that was halted after two-and-a-half innings by wet conditions with Mission Valley on top 6-3.

Calgary scored three runs in the first inning and Mission Valley followed with six in the bottom of the second.

Mission Valley did not bat in the bottom half of the third.

Tyson Petticrew, Julian Jones and Walter Wood all doubled once for Mission Valley. Jacob Harrod had two RBIs.

Lakers AA coach Ryan Malmin said the fields were in tough shape after Friday’s rain.

Weather permitting, tournament action starts today at 9 a.m. at Griffin Field.

Friday’s games will not be reworked into the schedule. See the calendar on page B3 for today’s Canadian Days schedule.
