The Montana Wooden Boat Foundation is offering new adult boat building classes in early 2017 at its Boat Building Center located at 100 Bierney Creek Road in Lakeside.

The classes are a great opportunity for individuals, couples and families to be a part of a fun, educational and rewarding program. No previous experience is necessary.

Pick a small boat style, build it with the help of an experienced boat builder and you’ll be ready to launch your new craft next boating season.

The new program series will focus on easy-to-build kayak and canoe kits that can be ordered online. Help is available in identifying a kit source or deciding on a boat style.

Participants will order a kit online and have it shipped to the Montana Wooden Boat Foundation Center. Your paid tuition includes instruction, full use of Boat Building Center, required tools and all materials, with the exception of paint and varnish which can be purchased through the Foundation at a discount.

Due to available space, the class is limited to five boats.

Anyone interested in becoming part of the program, or has an interest in wood boats or would like to know more about the Foundation is invited to visit the Center.

Support conservation and tree planting with the help of the Arbor Day Foundation during the holidays with a number of fundraising gift ideas.

Returning for the seventh season in a row, the Arbor Day Foundation is offering Give-A-Tree cards that can be purchased individually or with customized text for $5.95 each.

Purchase the Arbor Day Foundation’s coffee to help preserve rain forests in Central and South America. The Foundation’s coffee, a part of the Rain Forest Rescue program, is shade-grown under the canopy of Latin American rain forests. Unlike sun-grown coffee plantations, this traditional shade-grown method gives the coffee a rich and delicious flavor. Each bag helps preserve two feet of rain forest. The cost per bag is $13.49, including shipping.

The Foundation’s Trees in Celebration program allows the giver to honor loved ones while supporting crucial conservation efforts. For each dollar donated, one tree is planted in a high-need forest, and recipients are given a certificate showing them where the trees were planted.

Give the gift of membership with the Arbor Day Foundation and recipients will be sent 10 free trees, which will be shipped at the right time of year for planting. Membership levels vary and begin with a $10 contribution.

“We encourage everyone to give gifts that will have a lasting impact for generations to come,” said Matt Harris, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation.
